Non-statistical Sampling for Auditors

We often use sampling to collect evidence to support our findings and conclusions. But the entire
process can be daunting when we use it in governmental audits. When should I sample? Which
transactions should I pick? How do I interpret the results? Is it even worth the effort?
We’ll answer all those questions in a straight forward way. And, because we’ll be using a nonstatistical
approach, we get to skip the complicated formulas and calculations. Instead, we’ll spend our time
discussing how to use your professional judgement and common sense to apply sampling concepts and
practices and make good audit decisions.

Identify when you are sampling and when you are not sampling
Understand the differences between nonstatistical and statistical sampling
Identify the different types and uses of sampling when auditing
Understand the overall sampling process
Practice applying nonstatistical sampling to typical government audit situations
